KCVG Career Day a Huge Success

Over 350 people flooded the Knox Prairie Events Center in Goree, Texas, on September 11, 2013, for the 2nd Annual Career Day 2013. This event hosted 260 students from area high schools, 30 different speaker from 20 different career fields, 15 universities, colleges and trade schools and numerous school counselors and volunteers.

TSTC demonstrated the hazardous waste uniform.

The schools represented were Knox City, Munday, Benjamin, Paint Creek, Rule, Jayton, Aspermont and the new Rochester Technical Trade School.

Students had an informational day. They were able to pick four speaker sessions from the career fields of their choice. Speakers spoke candidly about their careers, answered questions and even discussed salary options. Speakers told the students what they do on a daily basis, and told them what kind of a person it took to do a certain job type. Students attended a college fair in the afternoon and were able to ask questions about programs, tuition, scholarships and more.

This year a special session was added on the dangers of texting and driving. The Texas Department of Public Safety hosted this session. All students attended and were amazed at some of the statistics and video that were shared.

Students practiced some Physical Therapy exercises.

Knox City Principal, Rick Moeller, welcomed the students.
Career Day is hosted by the Knox County Visioning Group.  Texas Agrilife Extension and the Knox City High School also partner with the KCVG to make this a great event.  This years sponsors included First Bank Texas, Quality Implement, AEP Texas, Texas Farm Bureau (Wes Latham), Workforce Solutions, Cisco College, Vernon College, Santa Rosa Telephone and the National Guard. These sponsors made it possible to provide a Career Day t-shirt to each student.

Sponsors made it possible to give each student a free t-shirt to commemorate the day.
